Beyond the introduction

The writer and the Amazon

Remy de Gourmont (1858–1915), a French writer and critic, gave Natalie Clifford Barney the sobriquet “the Amazon.” Their literary correspondence is described in the official finding aid for Barney’s papers. He belongs in the network as a writer and correspondent, not as a presumed romantic partner.
