Christabel Marshall (1871–1960), who wrote as Christopher St John, was a dramatist, novelist and suffrage activist. She wrote plays for the theatre Edith Craig directed, and the two women built a shared life as well as a working partnership. Clare Atwood joined their household in 1916. Marshall’s writing and political work belong beside that intimate history, not behind it.
